What is VoIP?

What do I need to use VoIP?

Just two things - internet connection and a phone. As soon as your VoIP systems are setup, you will be able to make and accept calls just as you would on traditional telephone lines.

What is hosted VoIP?

Hosted VoIP is a cloud-based phone system which has become a preferred system by businesses due to on-site phone equipment and complex wiring and telephone lines are no longer being required. The hosted VoIP provider takes care of all the hardware in a secure data center.

When I move to VoIP, can I keep my number?

Yes - at Emerald, we can transfer existing numbers, from your current traditional phone provider to your new VoIP systems. There are a number of providers who do charge for this, but this included in your package price. Please be aware that number portability is not instant and can take up to 10 working days.

If I were to move offices, could I take my VoIP with me?

Absolutely; with VoIP there are no location restrictions, due to its location in the cloud. All you will need is high-speed internet.

What are the main benefits to VoIP?

Do I need a computer to use VoIP?

A computer is not required for VoIP. But should you wish to utilise a softphone to make calls, a computer will be required to do so.

What is a softphone?

A softphone is the software placed on either a desktop or mobile application to allow for phone calls to be made via the internet.

What is IVR?

Interactive Voice Response automatically answers incoming calls and uses caller ID to suggest the most appropriate operator based on customer history, or customer request. Up to 65% of all incoming calls can be answered via IVR, offering huge operational savings.

What are the benefits of VoIP?

Yes - when using VoIP, you can utilise a number outside of your geographical location by using a virtual number. This is possible due to the use of internet.
